1. Age restrictions
Chelae is intended exclusively for individuals 18 years of age and older.
We do not knowingly collect, process, or store personal information from individuals under 18 years of age. We do not direct Chelae to children. We do not market Chelae to children. We do not engage in any practice that the Federal Trade Commission has identified as targeting children under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"), 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501-6506, and its implementing regulations, 16 C.F.R. Part 312.
2. Age gating
At account creation, each user must affirmatively confirm that they are at least 18 years of age. This is a binding representation. Knowingly providing false age information is a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in account termination and other consequences.
We do not require additional age verification documentation at signup, but we may request such documentation if there is reason to suspect a user has misrepresented their age.
3. App Store age rating
In the Apple App Store, Chelae's age rating is set to 17+, which is the highest available rating short of "Adults Only." This is intended to:
- Signal to the App Store and to parents that Chelae is not designed for children
- Trigger Screen Time and parental control features that restrict installation by minors
- Provide an additional layer of friction against under-18 sign-ups
The App Store age rating is set separately from our Terms of Service minimum age requirement. The contractual minimum age remains 18.
4. If we learn we have collected information from a minor
If we discover (or are notified) that we have collected personal information from an individual under 18, we will:
- Suspend the account immediately upon discovery
- Verify the individual's age
- If confirmed to be under 18, delete all associated personal information within 30 days
- Notify the parent or legal guardian, if their contact information is available
- Refund any Subscription payments made by or for the minor in the preceding 12 months
5. How parents and guardians can report
If you are a parent or legal guardian and you believe your child has created a Chelae account or provided personal information to Chelae, please contact us immediately:

Please include:
- The child's name and the email address associated with the account
- Your relationship to the child (parent, legal guardian)
- Your contact information
We will respond within 5 business days.
6. California-specific (SB 568 "eraser law")
Under California Business & Professions Code §§ 22580-22582, even though Chelae is not directed to minors, any California resident under 18 who has registered with Chelae has the right to request removal of content or information they posted to Chelae. To request removal, contact privacy@chelae.net with the subject "SB 568 Removal Request."
We will respond within 30 days. The right does not apply to information posted by a third party, anonymized information, or information we are required to retain by law.
7. International children's privacy
Chelae is currently offered only in the United States. To the extent any non-U.S. minor accesses Chelae in violation of these terms, the account will be terminated and information deleted upon discovery, in accordance with the procedures above.
8. Updates
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated in accordance with the Chelae Privacy Policy.
